International Anti-drugs Day in 26 June was marked by the installation of an ambassador coming from athlete circles. Ryan Haryanto was chosen in this year.
This racer of Kiky Djarum Black Racing Team was installed with Reza Aulia (a student of Kharisma Bangsa Senior High School) and an artist, Sandra Dewi. Inauguration was done in Istana Negara and was led by President Bambang Susilo Yudhoyono.
Beside President SBY, there was the head of the Indonesian police, that is, Police General Sutanto, Attorney General Hendraman Supandji, the head of BIN Syamsir Siregar, and some of cabinet ministers and delegations of UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime).
Sutanto, who also occupies the head of National Narcotics Agency, emphasized that society had to take part although ambassadors are always chosen every year. Ryan admitted that he was proud. Moreover, his achievement in single seater race was being developed.
“I can’t express my pride like what I feel today. Chosen as the ambassador for a case in which all people must be wary of drugs is that it can’t be felt by all people. But, it doesn’t mean that by being this ambassador, then, I am just proud. No. I must actively take part in campaigning this, in where it is appropriate with my role as a racer. At least in car race environment, I can campaign,” said this twenty year old driver.
Ryan’s father, Sinyo Haryanto, which is known incessantly by inspiring anti-drugs spirit, was also proud of his son’s installation. “I, for a long time, want one of my family will be chosen, and this year it is accomplished. This is a mandate which can’t be taken lightly,” said Sinyo.
Ryan also admitted if there were drivers using drugs, it must be impossible they would gain the achievements. “It’s also necessary that cigarettes and alcohol are avoided, dangerous. Driving with low pace is dangerous much less in racing,” said Ryan.(arf)
